CONTINENTAL FOOTBALL CLUB HIRES TWO POWERHOUSE LEADERS.
Continental Football Club, the Philadelphia area’s premiere soccer club, is excited to announce new leadership by naming Robert Elliott as General Manager and Jamie Smith as Technical/DA Director. Mr. Smith joins Continental FC on August 1st. Mr. Elliott will begin at the start of the season.
“Both Rob and Jamie are highly regarded in the soccer world for their innovative leadership styles, and commitment to the development of each and every individual player,” says Brian Courtney, President of Continental Football Club. “We are thrilled to have both individuals on board to help us further our mission of making it all about the kids and growing youth soccer in our area,” adds Lawrence Kiey, Chair of Continental Football Club.
Rob Elliott comes to Continental Football Club after a highly lauded career with Cornell University, VCU, US Soccer and the New York Red Bulls, which included roles playing, coaching, scouting, and advising from a technical perspective. He has coached many teams to National Championships, provided technical support to the Philadelphia Union and DC United and oversaw scouting for US Soccer National Teams. Rob has his USSF “A” Coaching License.
“I’m driven to grow the game every day in this country,” Elliott said. “And this position allows me to get both feet wet and get in on the ground floor, and have a real impact in terms of helping grow all levels of play with the end goal of producing high impact players for the club, college, and our National Teams. My goal is to provide the kids with a high-level training environment, which will hopefully push players out of their comfort zones so they grow as young adults and so the experience provides them some insight on what the next level looks like.” - Rob Elliott, CFC GM
Jamie Smith has enjoyed success for more than 15 years both on and off the field as a player and a coach. For the last five years, Jamie has been an Academy Director for the Colorado Rapids and FC United and has his USSF “A” and Academy Directors Licenses along with his FFF Elite Formation Coaching License. Prior to that, Jamie was a professional soccer player and played for the Colorado Rapids and Celtic FC (Scotland).
Jamie and Rob are excited to get started, and are expected to meet with families during Continental FC’s preseason, which starts August 6, 2018. They will also oversee the U14 and U15 Boys Development Academy teams at the start of the season while they work together on a plan for permanent coaches.
